9 things you don’t know about me!
It’s a pleasure to meet you! I’m so happy you’re here and getting to know me. You can’t decide if you’d like to work with me if you don’t know me. So, let’s get started. Here are some things you may not know about me:
An ice cream cone changed my life. When I was 21, I contracted Campylobacter from contaminated ice cream. This infection resulted in my being hospitalized and almost dying! From this, I developed severe Osteoarthritis by age 25 and Fibromyalgia at 35 from all the NSAIDS I was overprescribed. So I’ve been a Spoonie Warrior for almost 25 years! Boy, I’m tired HAHA!
At age 45, I made a huge (and terrifying!) life change and went back to school at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to become a Holistic Nutritional Consultant. I graduated with Distinction in 2022 and opened and began my business, Sacred Souls Holistic Health. Before the pandemic, I was an administrative assistant with the City of Edmonton for almost 10 years. Going back to school may have been terrifying, but graduating is one of my proudest accomplishments! Knowledge is the one thing no one can ever take away from you.
I am a Reiki Master with Violet Flame Attunement. I’ve always had a strong Spiritual side (and am a practicing Wiccan!) While in school, I realized the importance of seeing my clients as holistic beings rather than just symptoms or diagnoses and that to achieve real, lasting results, we must address all issues, physical, mental/emotional, and Spiritual. It’s amazing how many people don’t equate their digestive issues with unresolved emotional issues from their past. Once energetic blockages can be moved and shifted, it’s amazing how fast physical healing can occur!
I am a published author! I have released 3 books: My Spoonie Diary - A Fibromyalgia Symptom Tracker; Fucking Mindfulness - A Profanity Laced Mindfulness Journal; and Healthy Gut, Happy You - A Gut Health cookbook. These are all available on Amazon!
I am an Ordained Minister with the Universal Life Church, a non-denominational congregation! I stumbled on this when looking to apply for a passport, of all things, and thought “OMG how cool would this be?!?!?” I have not performed any ceremonies yet, but I am available for all your marrying needs.
2 years ago, I married the most wonderful man ever, and we began our life together. I have 1 stepson who’s a Graphic Artist and Game Designer! He’s released 2 video games now, and has 3 in development (he’s a talented man indeed!!) We are proudly owned by 3 cats: our senior Rosie, whom I’ve had for 10 years. She asserts her dominance and makes sure we know that she’s the Queen around here, and our 2 newest additions: Gus and Sophia. Gus is an exuberant 6-year-old little boy in furry jammies whose favourite activity seems to be Parkour, and Sophia lives up to her namesake, Sophia Patrillo from the Golden Girls: she’s small, white and gives zero cares! She’s taken on the role of spokescat of the whole group!
I have 39 different allergies! Yup, 39! I am allergic to foods I have never tried before, and some I’ve actually never seen hahaha!! Wheat, Oats, Rye, Barley, Eggs, and Milk are the biggies, with a bunch more thrown in just for funsies. So, for all my clients who say they can’t give up X or Y food, I show them my restriction list and say, “Oh yes, yes you can”. As a result of all my restrictions, we have adopted a plant-based diet, eating meat maybe 1-2 times per week, and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. I went from eating maybe once per day because I felt awful after eating to loving food again, AND having food love me back!
2 years ago, at the age of 46, I took up dance! I started dancing with a size-inclusive dance company and have performed live on stage 3 times! It’s been terrifying and exhilarating and all the feels in between. Dance was something I’d always admired and wished I could do, but living in a fat body (I hate the polite euphemisms we use to describe larger bodies: “fluffy”, “curvy”, “bigger”, “plus size”, etc. I am fat, please call it what it is) has always made me think “that doesn’t apply to me, I can’t do that” These amazing women have turned that on it’s head. I’ve discovered that not only do I LOVE to dance, ESPECIALLY risque, but that I love how much freer I can move after dancing, and how much more confidence I have gained. I will wear a two-piece bathing suit! And it’s 100% because of the confidence I gained from dancing!
I chose to specialize in Gut Health because the gut is the source of all healing. Your gut is your second brain. If you don’t have a healthy gut, you will not have a healthy anything else. When I begin working with a client, they are often surprised when they come in for acne, for example, and I say we’re going to begin working on strengthening their gut and rebuilding their microbiome. But once we begin looking closer, they are shocked at how much gut work there IS to do. Once we start improving the gut and microbiome, the initial complaint often begins to resolve itself.
If you’ve made it this far, congratulations and thank you! I appreciate your interest. If you think we’d make a good match, then I look forward to hearing from you!
